Ramiro Choya
+35 years of experience / Premier Padel coach (P. Navarro, J. Lebron, P. Lima, S. Gutiérrez…)
Madrid (Spain)
Background / Career
Ramiro Choya is today recognized as one of the most respected padel coaches in the world. He started playing padel in 1987 in Madrid. At this moment, padel had only just arrived from South America, and he was among the very first Spaniards to take up the sport. Soon, he became a top player. By 1993, he was Spain’s #1. With the Spanish national team, he won three European Championships (1993, 1995, 1997) and twice finished runner-up at the World Championships, during padel’s explosive growth in Spain.
After ending his career as a player, Ramiro turned to coaching. As co-founder of the teaching department of the Spanish Padel Federation, he served as head coach for more than 12 years, training over 3,000 players during that time. His reputation rests on extraordinary technical and tactical expertise, which has drawn some of the biggest names on the professional circuit: Paquito Navarro, Juan Lebron, Pablo Lima, Sanyo Gutiérrez, Alex Ruiz, and Marta Ortega all worked under his guidance. His international experience also includes leading the Spanish national team, where he coached top players such as Ale Galán, as well as managing the national squads of Brazil and Qatar.
In 2017, he was named Best Coach in the World, and two years later he led the all-Spanish pair Navarro/Lebron to world No. 1—a historic first against Argentine dominance in the sport. In 2024, following the split of Lebron and Galán, Ramiro once again took charge of the Navarro/Lebron duo.
